Question by It’s a boy! Due Jan. 5th, 2011: Where is a good 3 night vacation spot in the midwest?
Besides Branson, St. Louis, Gatlinburg, Chicago…? My hubby and I are wanting to take a mini vacation this summer and only can take 4 days off work. So it needs to be like 12 hours or less driving to. We live in Terre Haute, IN if that helps. Thanks!

I would suggest Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin. It has wineries, lighthouses, kayaking and other water activities and gorgeous inns that are destinations in themselves. Here’s a list of things to do taken from i Love Inns in the description of the White Lace Inn:

Year-round activities invite frequent visits — the Festival of Blossoms, the Lighthouse Walk, Cherry Festival and the Classic Wooden Boat event, for instance. Take museums and gallery strolls, and enjoy the area’s great restaurants.

    Petoskey Michigan
Overlooking the shores of Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay in the northern tip of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula you’ll find Petoskey Michigan, a quaint resort community with unmatched beauty and charm. Petoskey has been a destination for resorters for more than 100-years and for multiple generations. People return to soak in the rich views, breathe the clean air, eat at world-class restaurants and shop in the specialty shops and boutiques of its historic downtown.

    Gatlinburg, Tennessee:
Not sure if I understood your question correctly, but it looks like Terre Haute is only about 7 or 8 hours from Gatlinburg, Tennessee? Not more than 12 that you mentioned.

Sorry if I misunderstood what you meant about Gatlinburg.
